About Sarah Sallie Coffey

""Elizabeth [Smith] Coffey died shortly after 1776 and Thomas Coffey married (2nd) Sarah Fields. They then removed to Wilkes County, NC, where six other children were born: G. Martha Coffey; married James Dowell. H. William Coffey; married Annie Boone [sister of Hannah Boone, who married his half-brother, Smith Coffey] I. Reuben Coffey; married Polly Dowell. J. Elijah Coffey; married Polly Hull. K. Sally Coffey; married Samuel Stewart. L. Jesse Coffey; died young." Primary Source: "The Nichols Family of North Georgia" by Thelma Bevan, 1960, p. 104." I apologize, but the source of this information that I received from a Nichols relative has long since been lost. Additional Notes: Sarah "Sally" Fields was the daughter of Richard Fields and Elizabeth Murrell. She was born in Albemarle, Virginia in 1750. She married Thomas Coffey in 1778 in Virginia. In about 1778 Thomas and Sally Coffey moved from Virginia to Wilkes County (now Caldwell CO.), North Carolina and raised 9 children on a 25-acre plantation on the upper waters of the Yadkin River near the present day town of Patterson. Sarah and Thomas Coffey were at first buried in the Hull/Hall Cemetery. In later years, their great grandsons moved them to Harpers Chapel when Hull/Hall cemetery became neglected and overgrown. Children not listed below are: Sarah "Sallie" (Coffey) Steuart, 1792-1865 Source: http://www.findagrave.com

Sarah Fields married Thomas Coffey between 1775 and 1780. Thomas was born 7 March 1742 in Essex Co., VA, and an entire book has been written about his descendants. (Coffey, Lawrence H. 'Thomas Coffey and his Descendants', Chattanooga: Newell Sanders. 1931). Thomas Coffey had first married Elizabeth Smith and they had six children. After Elizabeth died Thomas married Sarah Fields. About 1778 to 1780 they moved to Wilkes County, NC, on the Yadkin River above the present town of Patterson (now in Caldwell County). They had nine children. One of these, Caleb Coffey, married Elizabeth Collett, in Burke, Co, NC, in 1828. The marriages of Thomas, Elizabeth, and Sarah are confirmed in 'A Biographical Account of the Berry Family'. The information about the Coffey marriages are from, Coffey, Marvin D. 'James Bluford Coffey, His Ancestors and Descendants in America', privately printed, 1984. This book shows that Thomas Coffey was the son of John and Jane (Graves) Coffey.
