About Sarah Davis Conover

I believe this is Sarah D Conover, buried in Woodhill Cemetery Row (Section?) 10 with Peter Conover. The Cemetery is at 6228 Hamilton Middletown Rd, Franklin Township, Warren County, Ohio 45005.

Sarah D. Conover died in 1901. Peter Conover died in 1891.

According to my cousin, Bev Kline, Sarah Conover was indeed the daughter of Timothy Bennett and not of William Mints.

We know that she and Peter raised Martha Ann Mints in their home in Franklin, Warren, Ohio. And Martha Ann was married to Algernon Sidney Pettigrew there.

In the Federal Census of 1870, Peter Conover and Sarah D. Conover lived with Mary Petticrew (my great grandmother) and Mary's sister, Belle, in Franklin, Warren, Ohio. Mary was said to be "attending school," while Belle was "visiting".

  • Franklin Township Early Settlements records that "...Settlements were made about the neighborhood of Carlisle in the spring of 1804 and 1805, by Arthur Vanderveer, of Freehold, N. At the same time came Daniel Dubois and Dr. Benjamin Dubois, and, within the next ten years, several families from New Jersey came to this township and the southern part of Montgomery County, forming what is known to-day as the Jersey Settlement. The Lanes, Schencks, Denises, the Conovers, Poasts, Wykoffs and the Barkalows have all been well known in this part of the county since...'
