Sarah Knowlton

I suspect that Sarah is of unknown parentage and that most sources rely upon Stocking's original genealogy of the Knowltons that gave her father as John Whipple. In his Errata, he made many corrections to the Knowlton genealogy.

Errata and addenda to Dr. Stocking's History and genealogy of the Knowltons states:

Page 22 No 5 John Erase Sarah Whipple She married Joseph Goodhue of Ipswich July 13 1661 as proved by her father's will Elder John Whipple probated Sept 28 1669 John m 1 st Deborah surname may be Grant m 2d Sarah Deborah was living Sept 10 1666 as proved by a deed given that date in Ipswich by them but date of her death not known They lived in Ipswich Mass rem to town of Wenham prob about 1666 John and 2d wife Sarah must have rem back again to Ipswich as they both d there Sarah Feb 3 1678 9 and John Oct 8 1684 He d intestate and prob insolvent No probate records found except an Inventory which shows Personal 13 3 9 Debts 101 18 0 Among names of his creditors is his son Deacon Nathaniel 54 10 0 and Goodwife Davis 5 The History account of his children is incorrect some belong to other parents as explained below It is not known which are by 1st or by 2d wife but nearly all perhaps all were by 1st wife Deborah Corrected list as determined by Ipswich town records and by the will of his uncle Deacon Thomas in form of a deed in trust with bond given in History page 565 last 3 lines and page 566 first 3 lines is as follows Notice near bottom of History page 565 words his brother John etc in original record reads his cousin John etc meaning nephew John No 5

Married after September 10, 1666 when his first wife died in Ipswich MA to John Knowlton (B 1633) as his 2nd wife. He was the son of John Knowlton & Margery Wilson. Sources disagree as to whether Sarah was the daughter of John Whipple or whether her surname is unknown.
