Sarah Ann Lewis/Stewart

Sarah Ann Hart was the 3rd child born to John Hart, Sr. and Henrietta 'Rittah' Hart. Sarah Ann Hart was born in ca 1820 at Accomack County, VA.

Sarah Ann Hart married her 1st husband, Pvt. Thomas Lewis on February 9, 1837 at Accomack County, VA. He was the son of Spencer Lewis & Mary Willett. The couple had 2 children. [Note: Sarah Ann Hart was the 3rd wife of Pvt. Thomas Lewis.]

Sarah Lewis was listed with her husband in the 1850 Census at St. George Parish, Accomack County, VA. She was shown as Sarah Lewis, age 30 in HH#222 headed by Thomas Lewis, a 91 year old farmer with real estate valued at $20,000.

On December 30, 1858 Sarah married her 2nd husband, James Stewart. He was the son of Levin Stewart & Anne Snead. James Stewart was a 78 year old widowed farmer, born in Accomack County and living in Northampton County, VA. Sarah was a 39 year old widow, born & living in Accomack County, VA.

In the 1860 Census, Sarah was listed with her husband in the Census at Northampton County, VA., HH#681 was headed by James Stewart, a 93 year old farmer. Listed with him was Sarah Stewart, age 38; Rosey Stewart, age 38; Lewis W. Stewart, age 25; Harriet Cottingham, age 40; Betsy Nicholson, age 48 and Henrietta Nicholson, age 19.

In the 1870 Census at Locust Mount, St. George Parish, Accomack County, VA., Sarah was listed as head of household in HH#111 as R.A. Stewart, a 50 year old lady with personal property valued at $500.

Sarah Stewart died on August 27, 1877 at St. George Parish, Accomack County, Va. She died of Epilepsy at age 58.

Sarah & her 1st husband Pvt. Thomas Lewis had 2 sons: William Thomas "Tom Handsome" Lewis (b ca 1837-1907) and Lt. John Dennis Lewis (2/18/1841-1/11/1931).
