Sarah Lyon

In 1666 or 1667 Thomas Grant married Sarah Brook (or Brooks). Sarah was born 21-Jun-1646 in Scituate, Mass. the second of nine daughters of Gilbert Brook. Gilbert Brook left London for America in the ship Blessing in 1635, m. Elizabeth Symonds (b. 4-Sep-1628 Plymouth, Mass. d. 30-Jun-1695 Rehoboth, Mass.)

Thomas lived in Rumford, Mass., now known as Rumford, or East Providence, R. I. Sarah Grant, his wife, is recorded as having had employment sweeping out the Meeting House during the last six years of Thomas’s life, 1684-1690. The Meeting House built in 1674 had stocks for disciplinary purposes in the front yard. It was Congregational as well as governmental.

Sarah and Thomas had seven children: Mary, Sarah, Gilbert, John, Hannah, David, and a child who died young.
