About Sarah MacNeil

From page #135 / 136 in "History of Christmas Island Parish":

Donald McNeil (Big) - This was another son of Rory McNeil (Big). The lot of land at Benacadie on which he settled is now occupied by Norman D. McNeil, Alex and Philip H. McKenzie and Philip McLennan. He was married to Mary, daughter of Angus McDonald (Ronald) of Judique.

Issue: — Mary, Sarah, Isabella, Christie, Angus, Katie, Elizabeth, Ann, and Peggie.

Sarah married John McNeil (Big), Boisdale.

Sarah and her husband, John McNeil (Big), of Boisdale, and her sister, Christie, were killed by lightning while asleep one night. Their infant son, Donald, who was sleeping between his father and mother, was the only person in the house that escaped unhurt. The following day when one of the neighbours noticed that no one was on the move about Big John’s house, he went to find out the cause, and he found that everyone in the house except the child was dead. That child (Domhnall Iain Mhoir), when he became a man, married a daughter of Thomas Bryden, and settled at Ironville.
