About Sarah Merriam

Sarah Andrews Merriam's sister also married into the Merriam family. This is the accepted lineage. Please provide proof of any speculative marriages. Sarah's birth to her parents is recorded on the Barbour Collection/ Wallingford Vital Records, therefore her parentage is firmly established. Jacobs also states her marriage to Jesse Merriam. Families of Ancient New Haven by Donald Lines Jacobus, pg. 51, 1166, 2016, 2023

Opinion of another researcher :

Note: Identity of parents is speculative at best. Jacobus lists the death of David Wooding's wife (Sarah Andrews) as 18 Oct 1818, at age 50. This would put her birth sometime around 1768. The best fit from the New Haven/Wallingford area would be the daughter of Bartholomew & Sarah Andrews (Sarah Andrews), born on 10 Dec 1768. ??? Jacobus tells us that this Sarah married Jesse Merriam, yet no date or issue is given for this marriage ( maybe they had no children like other couples?) nor a date for the marriage to David Wooding. However, Wooding's first child was born in c.1796 when his wife Sarah was 28 ( and therefore couldn't be Sarah Andrews Merriam). Having a first child at a relatively late age would suggest the possibility that this was, in fact, her second marriage. Due to this evidence, ( there is no evidence so far) I can only conclude that the daughter of Bartholomew & Sarah Andrews is the most likely candidate for the wife of David Wooding. Another less likely possibility might be the daughter of Asahel & Sarah (Burr) Andrews (Sarah Andrews), who was born in either 1765 or 1770 according to Connecticut Town Birth Records, pre-1870 (Barbour Collection), East Haddam pg. 141 & Cheshire pg. 176.
