About Sarah Jane Mower

Fairview, Sanpete Co., Dec. 2- Our town has had an uninviting appearance for some time past, caused by the many yellow flags put up in front of residences, on account of scarlet fever. Although many of the children have been afflicted, no case has proved fatal so far and the general belief is that the disease is decreasing, and that we will soon get entirely rid of it.

A gloom was thrown over this community yesterday morning when it was learned that Sister Sarah Jane Mower, wife of Henry Mower, had passed to the great beyond. She gave birth to her thirteenth child a little over two weeks ago and was well enough to visit the kitchen a few days ago and sit up to write letters to her absent children. When she learned she was taken with heart trouble accompanied with severe pains which terminated fatally.

Sarah Jane Mower was the daughter of Warren P. and Rachel Cox Brady and was born in Fairview, about 41 years ago. She was first married to George Tucker, Jr., by whom she had three children, of which one is living, a son, and after being a widow for five years she married Henry Mower who was a widower with a number of little children, to whom she has been a kind and tender mother. Ten other children were born to them of whom eight are living.

Sister Mower was a a faithful Latter-day Saint, a good neighbor, loved by all whom knew her.

On account of the great amount of sickness in the community the funeral service was not held in the meeting house as customary, but was held outside of the residence at noon today, attended by many sympathizing relatives and friends. Consoling remarks were made by the speakers and appropriate hymns sung.
