On 29 Nov 1654 Sarah Hancock, widow of Simon, secured a patent to 300 acres in Lynnhaven Parish, Lower Norfolk Co. Her tract included 100 acres Simon had bought from Thomas Holt and the remainder was in consideration of a certificate for transportation for four. She renewed her patent on 23 Nov 1657 adding that it was, “purchased by her husband Symon Hancock due her as relict & Admx.” Sarah later married a Piggott of Lynnhaven Parish who was perhaps William Piggett, a headright of her 1654-patent. Sarah Cockroft Gaye Hancock Piggott wrote her will in Lower Norfolk (dated 1 Apr 1689, rec 15 May 1689) leaving bequests to Hancock and Moseley grandchildren. She appointed her grandson the overseer of her plantation

On November 29, 1654, Sarah Hancock secured a patent to 300 acres in Lynnhaven Parish, Lower Norfolk County. Her tract included 100 acres Simon had bought from Thomas Holt and the remainder she redeemed with that certificate. [Patent Bk. 3, p. 321] Sarah renewed her patent on 23 November 1657 adding that it was, “purchased by her husband Symon Hancock & due her as relict & Admx,” [Patent Bk. 4, p. 188] meaning she was his widow and was managing his estate, Simon having left no will.

Sarah later married a Piggott of Lynnhaven Parish who was perhaps the William Piggett, a headright of her 1654 patent.

Sarah wrote her will in Lower Norfolk 1 April 1689 leaving bequests to the Hancock and Moseley grandchildren and appointing her grandson Edward Moseley the overseer of her plantation.

The court recorded her will on 15 May 1689.

From the will of Sarah (Hancock) Piggott, of the Parish of Lynhaven, dated April 1, 1689 and proved May 15, 1689, she had issue by Simon Hancock: (2) Simon (3) William (4) Robert (5) daughter.

The following is an abstract of her will:

"... unto my Grand Daughter Susannah Moseley, a feather bed wih all the furniture thereunto belonging foure pewter dishes ... two ewes, one chest, one negro woman ... one large table cloathe and half a dozen of Ozenbrings napkins ... a heifer ... a paire of good sheets foure breeding sowes and a horse called Sparke ...

"... unto my grand Daughters Mary and Susan Moseley all my wearing Clothes ...

"... unto my Grand son George ye son of William Hancocke ... one Ewe ... when he comes to age.

"... unto my Grand son Edward Hancock ... Ewe when he comes to age ...

"unto my Son Simon Hancocke children Every one of them a Lamb to bee DD them when they are weanable of this present yrs Stocks ...

"unto my grand Daughter ffances Hancocke a yeares schooling.

Court Records for Lower Norfolk County, VA (which can be found on Ancestry.com) show her as the relict/widow of Gilbert Guye and the new wife of Simon Hancock. Therefore, Guye (or Gaye as you had it spelled) was "not" her maiden name, it was the surname of her 1st husband. "At A Court Holden for the County of Lower Norfolk at Mr: William Julians Howse, 26 May 1642"

"It is ordered that Symon Hancock who married the relict and administratrix of GILBERT GUYE deceased shall sattisfie and pay himself in the first plact the quantitie of 88 lb ot tobb our of the estate of the said GILBERT GUYE for the charge of administration and other charges.

"Whereas it appeared unto this Court that there is due unto JOHN MARTIN from the estate of GILBERT GUYE deceased [by the acknowledgement of SARA HANCOCK the relict of the said GUYE] 1 Barrell of Corrine It is therefore ordered that SYMON HANCOCK who m. (married) the relict and administrator of the said GILBERT GUYE shall satisfied and pay unto the said JOHN MARTIN the said Barrell of Corrine) out of the estate of the said GILBERT GUYE all former orders being first satisfied."
