About Sarah Dollie Spring

Sarah Dollie Lawrence Spring, daughter of Nancy Emeline and George Thomas Lawrence was born November 28, 1883 on a farm north of Brooks and passed away at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Saturday, April 11, 1936, after a brief illness, aged 53 years, 4 months, 13, days. when she was 11 years of age, her mother passed away, February 1, 1894, leaving ten children. Dollies, as she is lovingly called, filled a great part in caring for her younger brothers and sisters. On Jan 19, 1913, she was united in marriage to Arnold Spring and moved to Pierre, South Dakota. To this union five children were born, Erma Dorthy, 22, Verna Magdalena, 20, Leona Maxine, 18, Rolly Arnold, 18, and Doris Imogene, 13. Her husband preceded her in death January 24, 1926, after which the family returned to Brooks, Iowa. She is survived by her five children, a son-in-law, Edward Magrath, and one granddaughter, Mary Joan Magrath and Erma's finance, Paul Bauer, and three brothers and six sisters, Jacob S., and George Roland Lawrence, Emma Wilcox, Phoebe Wilmarth, Jessie Schafroth, Ruby Harlow, Floyd Lawrence, Bessie Pell, Nellie Bunting, all of Corning and Brooks. also a number of brothers and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Dollie was a devoted mother, a true friend, helpful and kind to all. She was always optimistic and cheerful and will be greatly missed in the community and by all who were privileged to know her. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal Church in Brooks, conducted by Rev. William Overhulser, with burial in Methodist Grove Cemetery.
