Her birthdate has not been verified, nor her date of marriage, theyare
assumptions.
There is also some conflict about who Sarah Best's mother could
be.The name
of "Mary Ann" has been carried down for many generations;
however,recent
research by Mrs. Doris Wilson, Martin Co. Historian, and desc.
ofThomas Best,
indicates some errors. Doris believes that Thomas Best was married
to(1)_____
Smith, the probable sister of William Smith of Tyrrell County,
N.C.William
Smith and Thomas Best were neighbors and possible relatives,
becauseTyrrell
County deeds for William Smith to Thomas Best were for 183 acres
andfor 700
acres of land, for very little money, indicating perhaps Deeds ofGift.
(William Smith was the son of James Smith.) Therefore, it is
verypossible
that Sarah Best's mother was Miss Smith. Thomas Best married (2)
MaryAnn
Jones, the daughter of John Jones and Nancy Rachel Norris.
We also know from the land records that Mary Ann Jones Best
married(2) abt
1792, Llewelling Grimes, after Thomas Best died 10 Mar 1791. They
hadat least
four known children together. Mary Ann also had at least two
childrenby
Thomas Best. One thing is certain: Mary Ann Jones was too young
tobe the
mother of Sarah Best. According to the Will of Mary Ann's
father,John Jones,
he left to dau. Mary Ann Best and grandchildren, Nancy and Henry
Best.(in
1790, with no mention of a "Sarah Best" as a grandchild.) (From

Best'sstepmother.
