Maiden name = Gross
BORN: 16 Feb 1746 in Canestoga, Lancaster County, PA
DIED: 12 Dec 1810 in Friedburg, Forsyth County, NC

  • * Interesting point about the last name. The family line is clearly called 'Long' now. Info I have found on this line is that it was 'Lang'. The two names seem to have been used interchangably with Frederic and his father Heinrich. Frederic imigrated to US in 1751 from Germany -possibly a language/pronunciation confusion.

Daughter of Simon Gross Sr. and Virginia Mayer. She married John Frederick Long Jan 7,1765 in Pennsylvania. They had 11 children John A.,Sarah, Mary, John George,Susana, Elizabeth, Catherina, John Fredrick, Henry, Joseph and Sophia.
Story below from Ancestry.Com i failed to document who i got it from.
Sarah and her new husband Frederick Lang would first make the journey and later Simon would follow. In order to avail themselves of this opportunity to gain farm land, they decided to join those, who traveled by covered wagon from Philadelphia to the location of Salisbury, North Carolina, a distance of more than 400 miles over rough roads through the wilderness. The road they took was through Pennsylvania by way of Lancaster, York and Gettysburg, across the Potomac River at Watkins Ferry, down along the Shenandoah Valley through Harrisburg and Staunton to Roanoke, Virginia. From here the road crossed the Blue Ridge Mountain range in a natural gap and proceeded on down through Martinsville, Virginia and Greensboro, North Carolina to Salisbury. It appears that Simon had made the journey with his family and was living in North Carolina in 1767, settling in what was to be known as Surry Co, North Carolina

Suggested edit: Just technical information, but a death date attributed to Forsyth County, NC before 1849 would have actually been in Stokes County since Forsyth had not yet been created out of Stokes. If they had death records back then (but they didn't) it would be found in Stokes Register of Deeds.
