Biography
Sarah "Sallie" Tidwell was born about 1800 on Cherokee land in what is today Forsyth County, Georgia, the daughter of John Tidwell and Celia Gravitt, both white. She was one of four (possibly five) daughters of John and Celia to marry or have children by Cherokee men. [1] She married John Sanders (no children) [2] and about 1815 had a child named Early Jefferson Goddard with another Cherokee man, David Cordery. [3] Sally's death date is unknown, but Jefferson was adopted and raised by Sally's sister Winnie and her husband, John Goddard. [4]
