Franklin Democrat, Friday, October 18, 1895, page 3, column 5
Sarah Jacobs, daughter of Milburn and Catherine Jacobs, was born in Preble county, Ohio, Sept. 30, 1827, and departed this life Oct. 13, 1895, aged 68 years and twelve days.
She was married to Garrett Utterback on Christmas Day, 1853, with whom she lived happily until his death, which occurred Jan. 23, 1876.
She obeyed the gospel in early life at Nineveh, Ind., and during the many years of Christian service she followed the Saviour with an unwearied fidelity – modest and retiring in disposition, conscientious in the performance of every known duty she was an earnest advocate of the faith which she professed. The briefest sketch of her life would be poorly drawn if it failed to portray her character as a mother. Untiring in her labors of love, her fatherless children never fully realized the great loss of a father’s love and protecting care. To those children, three sons and three daughters, she leaves the priceless heritage of a good name and good example. To the two brothers and four sisters, who still survive her, and many other loving ones who mourn for her, they should remember there is no death for the pure in heart, they are only transplanted to adorn immortal bowers.
