Sarah Warner

Biography

Sarah Warner was born on November 25, 1699, in Deerfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts, United States. Her parents were Ebenezer Warner and Waitstill Warner.

Sarah Warner was captured with her mother and sister by the Indians during the raid on Deerfield February 29, 1704, her mother died during the march to Canada. She was returned to her Villiage. • The villagers who were captured were forced to march the 300-mile-long journey to Canada in the deep snow in the dead of winter. Those who could not keep up were killed.[https://historyofmassachusetts.org/raid-on-deerfield/[]]

*    Chances of survival seemed to depend on the captive’s gender and age since infants and young children fared the worst and more adult men survived than adult women

* Of the more than 100 villagers who were captured, only 89 survived the journey to Canada.

*    After reaching Canada, the Indians sold many of the captives to the French, who ransomed about 60 of them back to the English over a three-year period.
