FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MELISSA WATSON

Funeral service for Mrs. Sarah Melissa Watson who passed away in St. George on Wednesday morning of last week was held in the West Ward chapel here on Saturday at 11 a.m. Speakers were S.A. Matheson, Mary M. Marsden and Walter C. Mitchell. A mixed quartet sang the opening and closing numbers, "Author of Faith", "Lead Kindly Light" and "Though Deepening Trials". Will L. Adams read sentiments composed by Maude Lyman and resolutions from the Parowan Literary Club, of which Mrs. Watson's daughter Lizzie is a member. He also read messages from absent members of the family.

Barbara M. Adams read sentiments from the Stake and Ward Relief Society members and Dr. D.A. McGregor sang a solo of his own composing, "Mother". The opening prayers was by John Stevens and the closing one by Thomas D. Adams.

Funeral service was held the previous morning at St. George where the speakers were Bishop McArthur and Brothers Worthen and Miles. A mixed quartet which included President Nichols, Dilworth Snow, Mrs. Paxman and Miss Reber furnished the music and Dilworth Snow also sang a solo, "Lay My Head Beneath The Rose."

From the last issue of the Washington County News we reproduce the following information concerning Mrs. Watson.

Mrs. Sarah Melissa Watson, aged 79 years, 5 months, and 20 days, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Vivien Woodbury, at 7:45 Wednesday morning. Death followed a lingering illness of gastro-intentinal trouble.

Sarah Melissa Clark was born July 23, 1851, at Cajon Pass, San Bernandino County, California. She came to Utah in 1857 and in 1871 she was married in Parowan to Lorenzo D. Watson.

To this union were born three boys and nine girls. In 1896 Mr. Watson passed away.

Mrs. Watson came to St. George in 1909 and has resided since with her daughter, Mrs. Vivien Woodbury. She leaves to mourn her loss the following children: Millard D. Watson of Cedar City, Mrs. Pearl Lyman of LeGrande Oregon, Mrs. Lizzie W. Adams of Parowan, Mrs. LoRen W. King of Salt Lake City, Mrs. LaVerd W. Lilywhite of Los Angeles, and D. Clark Watson, Mrs. Alma McGregor, Mrs. Bertha McGregor, Mrs. Myrtle Whitehead and Mrs. Vivien Woodbury, all of St. George.

She also leaves fifty living grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. All children with the exception of Mrs. Pearl Lyman and Mrs. Loren King will attend the funeral services. --Washington County News
