About Sarah Woodman


She was taken captive by Indians after a raid. (See Robert Huckins).Her husband James Huckins was killed by Indians 18 Aug 1689 when his garrision house was captured. Most of his party were killed. This was in Durham, Strafford, NH. James Huchins was a Lt., constable in 1676; Selectman in 1687, taxed in 1664.

Sarah made a deposition, 21 Dec 1673 "about 19 yrs. of age." saying her husband was slain by Indians Aug. 1689. Sarah was rescued by Major Churchill after a year captivity among the Androscoggin Indians. -----

She was recovered by Capt Church at Adnroscoggin fort in Sept 1690
