About Sarg. Thomas Downs, Jr.

About 1650, Thomas Downes, I came to Boston, MA from England on the ship Defiance. In 1656, the town od  Dover granted him land in Conchecho. In 1657, he bought ten more acres of the town. In 1666, he was constable of the town. He was a shoemaker by trade. In the record of Boston, MA his last name was spelled without the 'e'. Downs. 

Thomas Downs owned 60 acres of Great falla, NY ( now called Somersworth). It was Indigo Hill. There was a saw mill and grist mill just below the falls in Somersworth. In 1750, Samuel downs owned this land.
