"I loved seeing a photo of Great Uncle Saul (Schojl); I've never seen one before. My father, Isadore claims that he remembered him even though he was only three years old (the sisters, Dora & Jenny lived within a short walking distance of one another). Dora was the midwife at my father's birth on 2/18/1911). The year 1914 was a bad one for the Letter/Latter family: - the death of young Esther, then the death of Saul (Schojl), & the start of World War I, which cut everyone off from the extended family back in Europe."
OCCUPATION: 'Mydlarz' in Polish is a Soap Manufacturer or Soap-Maker
IMMIGRATION: Abstracted by Gary GOLDBERG (the great nephew of Saul STAHL) from the EllisIsland.org database: Saul STAHL arrived in America at the age of 25. Sailing from Hamburg on 19 February 1904 he arrived on the S.S. Pretoria at the Port of New York on 6 March 1904. Saul STAHL is listed as "Saul STALL" on the ship's manifest. According to the ship's manifest his last place of residence in Europe was Obertyn (listed as "Obertyan") and he had $3.00 in his pocket at the time of his departure from Europe.
