About Saville Simpson
Founding Father of Ashland Massachusetts
It is not known whether he is buried in the Old Revolutionary Burying Ground on Union Street in Ashland Massachusetts or in the one that lies next to Kings Chapel in Boston Massachusetts. A stone memorial in the old Union Street enclosure definitely states that Savil Simpson is buried there, but authority for this conclusion is difficult to verify. The land was a part of the Jones property and it is improbable that any burial records were ever kept. Local tradition accepts the statement on the memorial.
"In this cemetery lies the remains of Savil Simpson, the first settler in this valley who purchased it from the original grantee of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and his descendants as well as the old families in this town."
