About Sebella Nelson

Links to parents were provided by Gail Fisher Walker. The following obituary was provided by Kevin Walker:

  • *** As the sun at the close of day gently sinks below the horizon, so our dear mother, Sebella A. Nelson, after a well spent life, sweetly fell asleep on the evening of May 12, 1887, to awake in that "beautiful land, the far-away home of the soul." Her maiden name was Walker, and she was born near Nashville, Tenn., June 15, 1808; married Matthew Nelson on the 7th of August, 1828; after which they moved to Alabama, thence to Noxubee County, Miss., where she remained until her death. Her husband and four sons had gone before. Three daughters survive her. She professed religion and joined the Methodist Church early in life. For over fifty years she was a professed follower of the Lord Jesus, and no charge was ever brought against her that she was not what she professed. She met the trials and bereavements of life submissively, believing the rod was in the hand of a loving Father. No word of murmur or complaint was ever heard from her lips, though for years she was confined to her room and bed by paralysis. In that time her Bible was a constant solace. She was a faithful, trusting wife, trusting wife, and I can truly say a better mother, one more unselfish or more untiring in her devotion to her family never lived. Daughter Gospel Advocate
