Hotel Villa Montecarlo After the Gran Hotel Arzapalo was built, Mexican businessman Guillermo de Alba and English businessman Septimus Crowe arrived in Chapala. Mr. Crowe suffered from arthritis and came here because someone suggested he try the thermal waters of Chapala to treat his illness. Mr. Crowe liked the area so much, he decided to build the Villa “Montecarlo” (nowadays Hotel Montecarlo), which had many thermal water pools.
