Serena Sabin came to Colorado Territory in 1867 by Stage Coach. She was a teacher, and lived in Central City where her husband George K Sabin was a mining engineer during the the booming gold rush. Colorado would not become a state until 1876. Their daughters were Mary Sophia Sabin and Florence Rena Sabin. Florence would became famous for her scientific research studies involving human anatomy. To be a teacher in Central City and early Colorado which had just became settled a few years before would have been a difficult and tasking feat on several levels. How fortunate those children were to have her abilities back then in a town where gold and silver were top priority to most, and education farthest from the mind if seeking a fortune. She would die at an early age of 35 from puerperal fever after birth of son Albert who also died. Another son also died after birth a year earlier. It had to devistate her family to loose the babies and her all in such a short period.
