About Seth Leonard
Seth, son of James and Lydia (Gulliver) Leonard. About 1755 Seth Leonard, in company with others, established iron works on Two-Mile river about half a mile above the first Taunton iron works, established by his grandfather and others about one hundred years earlier. Sept. 10, 1761, he sold his homestead, with dwelling house, saw mill and grist mill in Raynham, to his son Edmund. During the latter part of his life he was insane and under the guardianship of Robert Brettun. He died in Providence, R. I., in 1770.
Seth Leonard and Dorcas White married on December 17, 1712, in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. Their children were all born in the part of Taunton which became Raynham:
- Rebecca Leonard, born in 1714, died July 21, 1738.
- Nicholas Leonard, married, Nov. 1, 1743, Hannah Stimson, of Taunton, and moved away.
- Edmund Leonard, b. 1722, died Dec. 31, 1803, aged 81 years.
- Ebenezer Leonard, b. May 21, 1724; died May 15, 1725.
- Probably others, names not found.
