From the "History of DeWitt County, Illinois - 1882"
The volunteers in this regiment were from DeWitt and Piatt Counties, DeWitt having six companies, (A B D F G and I). They were mustered into the United States service at Camp Butler, Illinois, September 4, 1862. After the South surrendered the regiment moved to Salisbury, NC, where it emained doing guard duty until June 21, 1865, when it was mustered out of service. On June 22, 1865 the division left for Camp Butler, Illinois where it arrived July 2, 1865 and received final payment and discharge.
