About Sgt. John Stuart
John Stuart was the son of John Stuart and Isabella Stuart (nee Legg), of North Middlemuir, Methlick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. During World War I he attested in December 1914 and served with the New Zealand Machine Gun Corps. Mentioned in Dispatches and in 1917 awarded Military Medal for Acts of Gallantry in the field. He received gunshot wounds to the chest and recovered at Brockenhurst before arriving back in New Zealand. John died as a result of those wounds on 25 June 1922 and was buried in Pohangina Cemetery.
