About Shadrack Hoar, Jr.

Settled in New Salem, Mass. He fought in the American Revolution in 1777 and 1778. Shadrach served at Roxbury, Dorchester Heights and the Battle of Saratoga. Shadrach was a Baptist (converted) who believed in a simple pious existence. Baptists back then were considered religious zealots. Shadrach took up arms against the Massachusetts Common Wealth and the U.S. Constitution in Shay's rebellion. By the look of documents obtained he may have been one of the last to surrender his arms and take the new Oath of Allegiance.
