Shai Mohapi (1964 - 2018)

Brief overview:

Shai (54), was shot dead in his vehicle, which was parked at the Commando supermarket Centre in Welkom, on 10th November 2018. Two African males were seen on a video, where one drew a firearm and fired three shots on his chest and left arm. They pulled Shai from his car and drove off with his vehicle. Police and Medical personnel responded, but Shai was certified dead at the scene.

The vehicle was found abandoned in the vicinity of President Steyn mine in Welkom.

  • They were both found guilty as charged for murder and robbery by Welkom Regional Court. Matale was sentenced to 30 years in jail for murder, robbery and Illegal possession of firearm while his Morapeli was sentenced to 17 years in jail.
