Shaw was the son of Hector, Sr. and Lucy Ellen Oxendine Deese. He married Margie Brooks on Sep. 1, 1918 in Pembroke, NC.

The following was taken from the Oct. 21, 1973 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:

Funeral services for Shaw Deese, 78, who died Friday morning, will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the White Hill Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Davis Locklear, the Rev. Douglas Mitchell, and the Rev. Tommy Waggans officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He is survivied by his wife, Mrs. Margie Deese; four sons, Tommy, Charlie, and Samuel Deese all of Maxton, and Herbert Deese of Wagram; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Locklear of Fairmont, and Mrs. Wilbert Locklear of Rowland; three brothers, Donnie Deese, Hector Deese, and Welton Deese, all of Pembroke; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Jean Brooks, from Maxton, and Mrs. Ida Bell Locklear of Pembroke; 38 grandchildren, and 43 great grandchildren.
