Lou Shirley Rudd, 85, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence where she spent her final days and hours surrounded by family and friends. She was born October 3, 1928 the daughter of Harry J. and Ruth G. (Olin) Zeller and was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. She was a telephone operator for Michigan Bell Telephone for over 30 years but may be better known from her years as a hostess at the Pancake House.

Shirley loved attending her grandchildren's sporting and musical events and their other various activities. She was a member of Communication Workers of America (CWA), the Eagles Lodge and the PNA of Battle Creek. She attended Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, collecting cookbooks, and spending time with her family.

Shirley is survived by a son, David (Esther) Rudd of Hickory Corners; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Tim) Rosie of Denton, Texas, Stacie (Roger) Stuart of Winona Lake, Indiana, Caleb and Kerie Rudd of Grand Rapids; a sister, Ann (Joe) Bauer of Battle Creek; two step-sons, Terry Rudd and Gary Rudd; a niece, Julie and nephew, Neal and several step-grand & great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Bronson Battle Creek, The Oaks, Select Specialty Hospital and Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence for their care and compassion over the past two months.

Friends will be received by the family from 3-7 pm, Sunday, March 16th at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, 105 Capital Ave. N.E. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held 1:00 pm, Monday, March 17, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Thomas Townsend officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
