About Shmuel-Aharon Kam (Kahn / שמואל-אהרן קם (קאן

I am named for my paternal great-grandfather, Samuel Kahn, who my father was very connected to. Sam died the day my parents got engaged.

Most of my life (so far) I was very much a science-geek. As such, I have been programming computers for 25 years. In fact I spent most of my Army service writing software for the F4E Phantom fighter jet. My code has been to Iraq and back (I stayed in the office, thank you very much), and helped bomb the shit out of Lebanon. :-D I then spent 18 years in the gilded-cage of Hi-Tech, working my ass off, to help the company succeed, only to have the inane MBA-s (or PHB-s) run it into the ground.

In recent years, having had enough of this soulless (and bottom-line rewardless) grind, I studied to be a "Horse Therapist", with the long term goal of being a therapist, at least part time. Presently I volunteer one day a week at such a center, as part of my final efforts to be qualified.

We are in the process of building a home, here in Tal-Menashe, hopefully this year...

Regarding the history of my family name - When Samuel Kahn (see above) immigrated to the USA from Russia, at the age of 14 (~1905), he changed the name from KAM to Kahn, as did his siblings and parents who followed (or to Cohn). So I was born with the name of Kahn, as were my father and grandfather. Moving to the USA was not terribly kind to the Kahn family, so despite being there for so long (or because of this), I have a grand-total of THREE living relatives named Kahn (my brother, uncle and cousin).

Kahn is a VERY common Jewish name (13358 of them presently on Geni), and is the German version of Cohen. But my family are NOT of this "tribe", but rather Levites (this confusing factor was annoying). So in Sep. 2008 we went and changed the family name back to Kam.
