More famous was Sigvid Ribbing (died not earlier than 1345), whose relationship to his older names does not preserve source data; according to a German chronicle, he was of the same genus as Knut Porse. He was chief whiteman ("capitaneus") in southern Halland at least 1336–41 - perhaps as guardian of Knut Porse's sons - and by 1341 he married Märta Ulfsdotter (Ulvåsa family), the eldest daughter of Saint Birgitta. Birgitta was similar to R in a robber, and according to the Chadstone abbot Margareta Clausdotter's (bd 25) chronicle of Birgitta's family he was very harsh and cruel (cf. the meaning of the word ribbing above). Hans and Märta Ulfsdotter's son Peter Sigvidsson (d 1379), usually called Peter R, is mentioned among King Albrek's supporters in the standstill treaty with King Magnus' followers in 1371. He became the council of the council in 1375 or 1376, made the pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1379, wrote his will in Rome and died on his way home in Florence shortly after he became a knight. R was married to Marshal Karl Ulfssons of Tofta half-sister Kristina Ulfsdotter (Sparre of Tofta) but died childless after inheriting her half-brother (Liedgren) Arvid R's in Uppland drowned son Arvid R.

Sigvid Ribbing, by Wikipedia

Sigvid Ribbing was courtier over Halland and lord of the castle to Falkenberg Castle .

Sigvid Ribbing was a courtier in southern Halland 1336-1341. Nothing is known about his relationship, a German chronicle states that he was related to Knut Porse . Sigvid married before 1341 Märta Ulfsdotter (Ulvåsaätten) , daughter of Saint Birgitta . Saint Birgitta likened him to a robber and Vadstena abbess Margareta Clausdotter describes him in her chronicle of Birgitta's relatives as very harsh. Ribbing means traitor or violent man, which may be the reason why he was given the nickname Ribbing.

The marriage between Sigvid and Märta has later been linked to the story of the wedding at Ulvåsa.

Notes

Sigvid Sigvidsson Ribbing, died about 1350. Lives in Vapnö castle, Halmstad. From the family Ribbing no. 15. Sigvid was born in the early 14th century. Through an inheritance in 1340, he received the estate Vapnö in Halland (Vapnö belonged to the Ribbing family since the beginning of the 14th century). Sigvid was a courtier over southern Halland between the years 1330 and 1345. He is described as a cruel and hard man. Stayed in Norway and Sweden in 1335. Sigvid married Märta Ulfsdotter in 1341. She was the daughter of Ulf Gudmarsson Hjorthufvud and Birgitta Birgersdotter (Saint Birgitta). Märta was only 13 years old when it was decided that she would become the wife of Sigvid Ribbing. The marriage was more of a "political agreement" between her father and the reigning King Magnus Eriksson than a happy marriage. Sigvid Ribbing who was a "robber" made himself rich through thefts from the ships in the Kattegat between Denmark and Sweden. King Magnus Eriksson wanted power over trade in Sweden and in order to have a calm trade between the countries, he made a well-planned move by letting Councilor Ulf Gudmarsson's daughter Märta marry Sigvid Ribbing and persuade him to stay calm.

Through the marriage between Märta and Sigvid, Ulf Gudmarsson also strengthened his position as an adviser to the king because the agreement with Sigvid Ribbing was a political success for King Magnus Eriksson. Marta's mother, Saint Birgitta, opposed the marriage between Märta and Sigvid. When Sigvid and Märta got married, Saint Birgitta did not want to attend the wedding at Ulfåsa but sat outside the wedding hall. After a while she regretted it and eventually she went to them in the hall at Ulfåsa (more about this can be read in Magdalena Ribbing's book - The Ribbing 700 years in Swedish history). Märta and Sigvid were married for just over 10 years and had four children. Sigvid Ribbing died in the early 1350s when the Great Depression ravaged Sweden.

Bosatt i Vapnö slott, Halmstad.

Ägde jord i Marks härad i Västergötland.
