In The Immigration and Marriage of William (1) Carpenter of Amesbury, Wiltshire and Providence, Rhode Island, author Eugene Cole Zubrinsky argues successfully that "Thomas Carpenter of Amesbury, carpeter," who immigrated on the James in 1635, was actually William Carpenter of Amesbury, carpenter, later of Providence.
