About Simeon Moore, II
Simeon Moore II was born March 29, 1760 in Torrington, Connecticut to Simeon and Hannah Barber Moore. He was the 5th of nine children.
In 1776, at the age of 16, Simeon joined the Revolutionary War. He served with the Connecticut Militia as a private, at the battle of Bunker Hill. He then enlisted in Capt. Ben. Harmon's Co. April 1, 1777, for three years. He was discharged April I, 1780. He then served for a year with the privateers.
Simeon married Hannah Wilson Cooke June 21, 1784. Together, they had five children, Polly, Lavinia, Wealthy, Simeon III and Hannah. Hannah Wison Cooke died in 1796 and Simeon remarried a year later.
He married Elizabeth Andrews May 2, 1797. From this marriage, he had three children, Elhannan, Thomas and Phoebe.Elizabeth died in 1802. Simeon remained a widower for three years.
On May 10. 1805, Simeon married his childhood sweetheart, Roxanna Phelps. They had been engaged to be married prior to the Revolutionary Was. Word was sent back to his family that Simeon had been killed and thinking that Simeon was dead, Roxanna had married Paul Meacham. together they had one child, Benjamin. Altogether, Simeon had nine children.
In 1807, Simeon moved to Blendon Township, Franklin Co., Ohio,, where he settled on a 500 acre tract of land he had purchased. He spent the remainder of his life in Ohio.
