About Sir Alexander Ogilvy of Forglen, 1st Baronet

Biographical Summary

"The Hon. Alexander Ogilvie (or Ogilvy) of Forglen, co. Banff, 2nd son of George Ogilvy, 2nd Lord Banff [S], by Agnes, daughter of Alexander Falconer, 1st Lord Halkerton [S], was admitted Advocate, and created a Baronet [S] 24 June 1701, with rem. to heirs male of the body. He was M.P. [S] for Banff (two Parliaments), 1701-07, and a steady supporter of the Union [S], but was in custody, in June 1703, for undutiful behaviour in Parliament. He was made a Senator of the College of Justice, 23 June 1706. He married first (contract 17 November 1681), Mary (born 8 August 1663), 1st daughter of of Sir John Allardice of Allardice, co. Kincardine, by whom he had eight children. He married secondly 18 January 1702, Mary (born about 1657), widow of Sir Francis Kinloch, 2nd Baronet [S 1686], of Gilmerton, daughter of David Leslie, 1st Lord Newark [S], the famous General, by Jean, daughter of Sir John Yorke. He died 20 March 1727. His widow, by whom he had no issue, died at Edinburgh, in her 92nd year, 24 and was buried 26 March 1748, with her 1st husband."
