From the English Wikipedia page on the Clere Baronets:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clere_Baronets

Sir John's son Edward Clere represented both Thetford and Grampound in Parliament. Edward's son Sir Edward Clere was High Sheriff of Norfolk in 1586 but was forced to sell the family estate of Blickling Hall. Sir Edward's son was the first Baronet.

Ben M. Angel notes: Although the Wikipedia page indicated that this was the Sir Edward Clere that was High Sheriff of Norfolk in 1586, this was apparently an error. The Wikipedia page for High Sheriff of Norfolk shows a Sir Edward Clere of Blickling, Knight serving in 1580, when he was 16 and three years before being admitted to Gray's Inn. Likely, this was his father:

  • 1579 Thomas Knyvet, 1st Baron Knyvet of Ashwelthorpe, Kt
  • 1580 Sir Edward Clere, of Blickling, Kt
  • 1581 Arthur Heyeningham, of Ketteringham
  • 1582 Sir William Paston, of Faston, Kt
  • 1583 Sir William Heydon, of Baconsthorpe, Kt
  • 1584 Sir Henry Wodehonse, of Waxham, Kt
  • 1585 Thomas Hogan, of East Bradenham, (deceased) then Henry Hogan, of Great Dunham.
  • 1586 Nathaniel Bacon, of Stiffkey
  • 1587 Clement Paston, of Oxnead
  • 1588 Sir John Peyton, of Isleham, Cambs., Kt
  • 1589 Sir Robert Southwell, of Wood Rising, Kt
  • 1590 Henry D'Oyley, of Shottisham.
  • 1591 Sir Miles Corbet, of Sprowston,, Kt
  • 1592 Henry Gawdy of Claxton
  • 1593 Sir Bassingbourn Gawdy, of West Harling, Kt
  • 1594 Philip Wodehouse, of Kimberley
  • 1595 Thomas Clere, of Stokesby
  • 1596 Humphrey Guybon, of Thursford
