• Sir Robert de Greystoke was the son of Ralph de Greystoke, 5th Lord Greystoke.2 He married Lady Elizabeth Grey, daughter of Edmund Grey, 1st Earl of Kent and Lady Catherine Percy, before 1483.3 He died on 17 June 1483, without male issue.1

• Ralph, fifth Baron Greystoke (c. 1414–1 June 1487) was a member of the English lower nobility in the early 15th century, and a protagonist during the Wars of the Roses in the north. By his marriage to Elizabeth, daughter of William, Lord FitzHugh he formalized the long-standing alliance that had existed between the two families for some time.[1]
• Ralph was the eldest son of John de Greystoke, 4th Baron Greystoke by his second wife, Elizabeth Ferrers, daughter of Robert Ferrers, 3rd Baron Ferrers of Wem.[2] At age 22, he succeeded his father in the barony after the latter's death in 1436.

• He married Elizabeth FitzHugh, daughter of the fourth Baron FitzHugh. They had one son, Sir Robert Greystoke (c. 1443-1483), who married Elizabeth Grey, daughter Edmund Grey, 1st Earl of Kent. Sir Robert had one daughter, also named Elizabeth, who succeeded her grandfather in the barony as Elizabeth, 6th Baroness Greystoke. She in turn married Thomas Dacre, 2nd Baron Dacre, transferring the Greystoke titles and lands into the Dacre family.[3]

BIOGRAPHY

The order in which he married his two wives has been wrongly recorded in the Complete Peerage. However, it is established by a dispensation in the Calendar of Papal Registers: Letters, vol 13, Pt 1 (1995): 425. The document reads as follows: Date : 19 January 1474/5: 'Mandate to the bishop of Lincoln. Mandate to dispense Robert Greystoke, layman, and Margaret Grey, mulier, of the said bishop's diocese, to marry, notwithstanding that they are related in the third degree of affinity, because the late Elizabeth Grey, also Robert's wife, was related to the said Margaret in the third degree of kindred.'
