About (Sir) Thomas Mallory, of Hutton Conyers
This is #3 of the candidates to have authored the Morte d'Arthur, and he's rather a dark horse. He was probably the third or later son of William Mallory and Dionysia Tempest, which would put his birth date somewhere after 1430. It is unknown whether he was ever knighted or a prisoner (both conditions necessary to the author of the Morte), and the most he has going for him is familiarity with Yorkshire dialect - some of the known sources of the Morte were written in that dialect and difficult (but not impossible) for "outsiders" to decipher.
He was certainly still alive as of 28 May 1471, when he had a troublesome neighbor cited in court (Ripon Act Book), but nothing is known of him after that date.
