JOLIET — Sister Marie Grunloh, OSF (1920-2011), died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet.
The wake for Sister Marie will be held from 2 to 6:45 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Ave., Joliet, (Wyoming and Rt. 30), with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville. The funeral procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels at 9 a.m. Saturday. There will be a Memorial Mass at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Dieterich, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. Following the Mass, a reception will be held in the parish hall. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, 1433 Essington Road, Joliet, IL 60435.
Born in Green Creek, she was one of six children born to John and Elizabeth (Schumacher) Grunloh.
Sister Marie was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 74 years.
Before entering religious life, Sister Marie was a member of St. Mary Help of Christian Parish in Green Creek. She attended Green Creek Grade School, Sigel High School and Teutopolis High School. She graduated from St. Francis Academy in Joliet and received a Bachelor of Arts in Latin from the College of St. Francis, Joliet. She held a Master of Arts in Latin from DePaul University, Chicago, and a Master of Arts in counseling from Illinois State University, Normal.
For 33 years, Sister Marie ministered at St. Francis Academy, where she taught Latin and served as moderator of the Sodality. Sister Marie also ministered for 28 years at the Center for Correctional Concerns as assistant director and instructor.
Her sister, Agnes Brummer, resides in Dieterich. She also is survived by her brothers-in-law, Clem Sandschafer and Clete Brummer; sister-in-law, Dolores Grunloh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Andrew, the Rev. Donatus, OFM, and the Rev. Melvin, OFM; and her sister, Cecilia Sandschafer.
