About Sister Laufey Olson
Sister Laufey was born at Selkirk, MB. She served with her husband, the late Rev. Olson at Flin Flon, Manitoba, Stamford, Nebraska and Columbus, Nebraska. Sister Laufey was consecrated as a Deaconess of the United Lutheran Church in America at the First Lutheran Church in Winnipeg on June 8, 1959. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, MN, June 1, 1969; and a Master of Arts degree from Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN, May 29, 1977. She was certified by the Lutheran Church in America as Director of Christian Education, 1969. She served as Parish Secretary at Grace Lutheran Church, Lincoln, NE (1952 - 1955). She served for the Board of American Missions, United Lutheran Church in America, in the Arborg-Riverton Parish, St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Winnipeg and First Lutheran Church. She was called to be Parish Deaconess at First Lutheran Church and served approximately ten years. Sister Laufey did a study program in Iceland under the Church Workers Exchange Program of the Department of World Service of the Lutheran World Federation in 1962. She was active on the synodical level of the Central Canada Synod, Lutheran Church in America. She served as Director of Christian Education at Advent Lutheran Church, St. Paul, MN from 1969 - 1982. She returned to Winnipeg in November, 1982 and was active in the First Lutheran Church in Winnipeg. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 26 at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor St.
