About Solomon Alston, Sr.

A Patriot of the American Revolution for NORTH CAROLINA. DAR Ancestor # A002050

Solomon is the first son of Col. John Alston to appear on record

(he conveyed land in Chowan County in 1727). It may be assumed

that Solomon was the eldest son. He was born in Albermarle (now
Pasquotank) and removed with his parents to Gates County at an
early age. His will shows that he was living in Warren County.
His will records a tract of land purchased from William Hurst in
Warren County, by deed bearing date, September 20, 1754, for 640
acres more or less; another tract of 1200 acres purchased from
Joseph Montford, Esq.; also another 67 acres purchased from
William Hurst, September 18, 1756 and a tract of 213 acres
purchased from his son, Solomon, now deceased, July 13, 1765,

with six other tracts left to children already living on, with acreage mentioned. This shows him to be a large land holder and many slaves are mentioned in his will. He desired that his two

sons-in-law, Isaac Hunter and Jesse Hunter, have the use of his

still in distilling the brandy made by them on their
