Brief overview:
Solomon (47), was shot dead while trying to fight off two armed perpetrators, who had invaded the family home in Constantia, Pretoria, on 15th July 2007. He, his wife and his disabled daughter Serelda, were attacked when they arrived home from a wedding at 1am. Solomon was shot once in the chest, and died at the scene.

- At the end of October 2008, Sithole and Mthabezitha, were found guilty of murder and assault by Judge Vivian Thlapi. Sentencing was scheduled for 10 November 2008.
- On 10th November 2008, Judge Vivian Tlapi, sentenced Mthabezitha and Sithole to life and six months imprisonment for murdering Mr Maritz and assaulting his disabled daughter. Tlhapi commended a neighbour who probably saved Serelda's life when he fired shots, hitting one of the fleeing assailants, after hearing her screaming and seeing Maritz lying lifeless on the ground.
