Stanley Reed's Timeline

June 13, 1912
Michigan, United States

Dad was born on 6/12/12 (Baptisum records) in Wayne Township, MI. His parents were Stanaslavia (Sternick) and Nicholas Kraszewski. He had a younger brother Adam that was born 12/15/13. Their mother Stasha died in 1916 from complications due to a burst appendix. Dad and Adam were placed in the St Joseph's Boys Orphanage in Jackson, MI shortly after by their Godparents. Dad was fostered to the Wm Reed family when he was 6 and remained with the Reed's until he was 14.
Adam was a "Runaway Problem" for the Nuns at the Orphanage and he was sent to Father Flanagan's home in Nebraska. Although Boys Town claims to never turn a child away I have a letter from Father Flanagan asking the Nuns to take Adam back because his running away was bad publicity for the home. Adam was finally sent to a school in Tierney Nebraska and then he disappeared.
The Reed's told Dad he was adopted and he went by the name Stanley Reed. He ran away when he was 14 and "Hobo'd" all over the United States during the depression until he ended up back in Michigan and he took a job as grocery bagger in the A & P stores. He worked himself up to the position of "Clean Up Manager" and was sent to stores that we're either not making money. That's how Dad ended up at the A & P store in Fort Wayne, IN.
The A & P Store was on Mom's route to and from her job. She stopped to buy the familly a water melon on her first payday and Dad sold her a green melon. She and Gramma Ogg came back to complain and the rest is history.
When Mom and Dad decided to get married they had to have birth certificates and he went back to the Reed's for the adoption paperwork because Mrs Reed was still living. She admitted that they had never adopted him and so since all of his records were in the name of Stanley Reed he legally changed his name from Stanaslaws Kraszewski to Stanley Reed.
Both Mom and I have looked for records of his father, brother and also an Uncle Teloff Sternick without luck. So we were all the family he had. He and Mom were older when we kids were born and many times he was sometimes mistaken as our Grandfather. He was a great Dad.
