Father of General Orris Sanford Ferry. He was a son of Ebenezer Ferry and Charity Foote. He lived much of his life in Danbury, Connecticut. where he was a hatter. He lived later in New York City and died in Norwalk, Connecticut where his son General Orris Sanford Ferry also lived.

Starr Ferry, Esquire, father of Senator Ferry died at his son's residence in Norwalk on Thursday night last. Mr. Ferry has for some time been in feeble health. For many years he occupied a conspicuous position in the business and politics of Fairfield county, being at onetime its high sheriff. His funeral was attended at Bethel, the family home. - Hartford Courant, 14 August 1867
