Stella Hapgood Posted: Thursday, December 27, 2001 By Stella M. Womack Hapgood, 86, formerly of McPherson, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at a Topeka nursing home.
Mrs. Hapgood worked for her husband, Merwin, and his partner, Bryan Holloway, during the holidays at Stanleys Fashions.
She was born Nov. 16, 1915, in Sylvia, the daughter of William P. Womack and Ora Calhoun. She attended school in Sylvia and graduated from Sylvia High School in 1933. She moved to Topeka from McPherson in October 2000.
Mrs. Hapgood was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in McPherson. She was a life member of the YMCA and the McPherson Opera House Preservation Co., both in McPherson.
She married Merwin DeLos Hapgood on June 11, 1939, in McPherson. He died April 14, 1981.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Hapgood, Topeka, and James Hapgood, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
Private graveside services at McPherson Cemetery will precede memorial services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in McPherson. Mrs. Hapgood will lie in state after 3 p.m. Friday at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Chapel in McPherson, where visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in McPherson and sent in care of the funeral home.
