Stephen Kendon Mallory, 55, of Rensselaer, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 24, 2006, in the emergency room at Jasper County Hospital.
Born February 28, 1951, to Herschell "Hook" Mallory and the late Margaret Furtado in Lafayette, Indiana.
He had resided in Rensselaer since 1983 and had also lived in Wayne and Fowler. He was a 1969 graduate of Benton Central High School, and he attended both Butler and Purdue Universities.
He was in the U.S. Air Force ROTC Program while at Purdue University, and graduated in 1981 from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
Mr. Mallory played semi-professional football in the late 1970s with the Lafayette Generals.
He was employed as a police officer for ten years with the Allen County Sheriff Department, and later with the Jasper County Sheriff Department.
He married Dr. Janice Hoskins on May 24, 1975, in Lafayette. She survives.
Surviving with his wife in Rensselaer are his father and stepmother, Herschell "Hook" Mallory (wife: Lucy) of Sun City Center, Fla.; his children, Meghan Mallory (husband: Joseph DeUrso) of Chicago and Nicholas Mallory of Rensselaer; and a sister, Kristina Seeley (husband: Roger) of Fowler. Also surviving are a niece, Margaret "Maggie" Seeley; and 2 nephews, Roger Seeley Jr. and James Seeley.
