Crossroads Cemetery #1Name on headstone Stephen & BithenaStiles. 1738-Revolutionary War soldier. Stephen Stiles born 5 Sep 1744 in Hanover, Morris, New Jersey died in 1819 in Wana, Monongalia, West Virginia. He is buried in Crossroads Cemetery # 1, Wadestown, Monongalia County, West Virginia. His parents were Jonathan STILES (1688 – 1758) and Elizabeth Taylor (1692 – 1758) of Connecticut. 31 Jan 1758 Stephen married Lydia (abt 1744 -1763) who bore 2 sons, Job and Aaron. After Lydia died he married Bithena (1740-1800) in 1762 in Hanover, Morris, New Jersey and with whom he is buried. They had nine children together. Sergeant Stiles enlisted in New Jersey and served from 1780-83, 5th Co., 1st Batt, Washington Co, PA militia under Capt James Archer's Co. Reference: Penn. Archives, Series VI, Vol. 2, p 17.
