He was the son of Stephen Henry Treat Sr. (1715-1794) and Mariam Clark. (1726-1754). He married Grace Sage (1757-1789) on 2 Dec 1773 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut. They were the parents of 9 children:

There appears to be a conflict on his actual death year and location. "Connecticut, Deaths and Burials Index, 1650-1930" and "Connecticut, Hale Cemetery Inscriptions and Newspaper Notices, 1629-1934" show that he died on 9 Oct 1824. This is the basis to the use of that date here. "Family Data Records - Individual Records" found at Ancestry.com shows that he died in 1834.
