About Steven I. Ermey

ZILLAH - Steven I. Ermey Sr. of Zillah, WA passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011 after a courageous battle with lung cancer, with his wife by his side. He was born January 1, 1949 in Kansas City, Kansas to Jack and Betty Ermey. They moved to the Zillah/Toppenish area when he was about 7 years old. Steve attended Zillah and Toppenish schools, graduating from Toppenish High School in 1967.

Steven quickly joined the Marines, serving 14 years, including the Vietnam War. The impact the war left on him could be felt in a statement he wrote a few days before he died, "I was born January 1, 1949, I died in Vietnam January 11, 1969." He was self employed for several years owning Apple Valley Home Repair. Steve loved hunting with his son, James and brothers, fishing, spending time with his family and playing in poker tournaments at the casino.

He is survived by his wife, Tish Ermey, of Zillah, sons: Steve (Phyllis) Ermey, of Covington, WA, Richard Ermey, of Mt. Vernon, WA, James (Danielle) Ermey, of White Swan, WA and Jared (Qwaichayla) Ermey of Yakima, WA, and Kyle Harmon; daughters: Tracy (Rick) Enriquez, of Richland, WA, and Alexia (Joe) Carr; 15 grandchildren: Steven I. Ermey III, Clare, Aireanna, Jesse, Casondra, Codi, Koda, Lance, Gaylen, Isabel, Whitney, Joshua, Gerard, and Jayden and Jasmin; 2 great grandchildren, 3 brothers: Ron (Nila) Ermey, Jack (Claudia) Ermey and Terry (Penny) Ermey; father, Jack (Pearl) Ermey; and numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty and brothers, Edward and Mike.

Viewing will be 12-7 pm Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday from 11 am - 1 pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah.
