Mr. Summer Huston Hammond, 83, husband of Ethel Stevens Hammond, died Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at his home after an illness.
Mr. Hammond, the 7th of 12 children, was born January 8, 1933 in Horry County, a son of the late Martin D. And Roxie Buffkin Hammond.
He retired as a Sergeant First Class from the US Army, after 20 years of service. Mr. Hammond served in the Viet Nam War, where he received the Purple Heart. After his military retirement, Mr. Hammond was a mechanic for Spring Mills and Cheney Brothers Industries for 23 years. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon.
